Approval Rating Rises Amidst Political Divide

Kentucky Senator Gains Support, Surpassing McConnell

In the midst of a politically charged atmosphere, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has witnessed a significant rise in his approval rating. A recent poll indicates a 4-point increase, elevating it from 38% to 42% since the first quarter of 2023. This surge contrasts starkly with the declining approval ratings of his fellow senators.

Amongst Senate Republicans, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky remains the least popular, with approximately 60% of Kentucky voters disapproving of his performance. In comparison, Manchin enjoys the support of 57% of voters, a marked improvement from the 40% approval rating he held in the first quarter of 2021.

Manchin's approval rating has steadily climbed throughout 2022, coinciding with a period when Senator Tester's standing plummeted following his support for President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act. This surge suggests that Manchin's moderate stance and willingness to work across party lines have resonated with voters.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen whether Manchin's popularity will endure. However, his recent surge in approval ratings underscores the ever-shifting nature of public opinion and the potential for political fortunes to change rapidly.
